The Princess Tails

The Musings of Zena, a Tibetan Terrier sharing her life and wisdom with Raffles, a Standard Poodle

The Pleased Princess

Yes folks. Once again I am thrilled to announce that I have been recognised by one of my fellow bloggers and I count this as a huge achievement. Why? Because this time it is a cat! Yes. You heard me. A cat.

A cat has done me the honour of nominating my blog for the ‘Seven Things About Me’ Award.

This very special and discerning feline is Sammy from The One Spoiled Cat Blog. I have got to know Sammy a little from this blog and I have to say folks that I think the name is rather appropriate! Sammy is a rather lucky cat and he knows it. He is a rather smart and good looking ginger tabby, I do so admire his coat. He photographs really well which is a very important step to stardom. And yes, he is spoiled but it hasn’t spoiled him. So go and check Sam out if you don’t know him. He once chased a fox – really! I thought that was very dumb brave 🙂

Sammy and I did get pretty tight when his pal Mollie was kidnapped eloped stolen missing.

This is my new award which if word press is behaving itself  will appear to the right of my blog. As word press swallowed several of my awards last week I am now watching them closely. I think there is some sabotage going on. I do not think Doggy is behind it, he is innocent this time.

I think this is a pretty wonderful award because it gives me permission to talk about something which is very important to me. ME!

I get to tell you seven (only seven though) things about me. As this whole blog is about me you already know a ton of things. However, we never sit down and chat over a bone or a chew toy so you actually don’t know some of the simplest things about me. The sorts of things you would know about a close friend. So I decided to tell you some of those things.

1. My favourite scent: Possum Poo. Really, it is the best smell for miles and girls if you ever want to garner some extra interest at the leash-free, roll in some possum poo before a walk.

2. My favourite colour: This was harder. I love yellow because it’s a happy colour and red because it suits me, but in the end I have to say pink because Magic introduced me to pink and she taught me that it’s the colour for girly girls. But then I am black……. okay, I like lots of colours 🙂

3. My favourite film – Up.

4. My favourite film star – Higgins. Who you ask? Higgins. He was the star of the Benji film and a real cutie with a great story. He was a mutt who was found in a shelter and rose to stardom but he still remained faithful and had his paws firmly on the ground. Yes, I know. You thought I’d go for someone light and frivolous like Lady from Lady and the Tramp didn’t you? Well I admire hard won success and Higgins is a real success story. He made it against all the odds, without privilege or advantage and I take comfort from his story and hope that one day I too will be discovered.

5. My favourite song – ‘I thought I lost you’ from Bolt. That one always brings a tear to my eye.

6. My favourite bedtime reading – ‘Princess Zelda and the Frog’, The Producer changes it to Princess Zena and the Frog 🙂

7. My favourite hobby – That does change a little bit. At the moment it’s ‘Tease the puppy’. I like to grab a chew of some description and casually walk over to him, I drop it just past his nose and when I have his attention I scoop it up and quickly walk (or run) away. It works every time 😀

So those are some of my favourite things so I hope you feel you know me a little better now.

Now to name seven other blogs to talk about their seven favourite things. Once again guys, I have tried to check your blogs to see if you have the award, sorry if I missed it and have doubled up. If you have an aversion to awards, just enjoy the fact that we thought of you 🙂

I hope everyone has a happy Monday and rest of the week. I will leave you with a real time photo of me which The Producer just took. Not my best angle, but having just come back from another jaunt around the park I am just chilling and thinking about a few of my favourite things…..

I Won! I Won! I Won!

I am very proud of The Boy today. He did great.

We entered into a Scary Halloween Costume competition and we won 🙂

Of course he wouldn’t have won without my amazing eye for gruesome detail and my incredible ability with stage make-up. And the competition was tough let me tell you, everyone looked very scary.

I mean, who else could make a cute (albeit hulking) puppy of 4 months look so scary that he won a Halloween competition? Only me. So, I won. He was just the model 😀

The competition for the guys was held at The Misadventures of Misaki  – don’t you just love that name? M I S A K I.

Raffles won for being the scariest guy and I can tell you there are times when he doesn’t need that make-up to scare me! You wait until a behemoth who hasn’t yet got control of his body or legs bears down on you with that ‘I wanna play’ look in his eye and you’ll know fear!

Anyway, that apart, I won and the guy did good 🙂 Judge for yourselves what a great job I did. Here’s a picture of puppy Raffles. Cute isn’t he?

Cute Raffles

And here’s the picture of scary Raffles after I had finished with him tee hee!

It also means we have a new badge to sport which is great.

Now there was also a girls competition held over at Mollie & Alfie’s blog. There was great competition there too and if I’d been in charge of my picture I think I could have won but The Producer did a poor job.

At first she couldn’t do it at all because she felt guilty making me look messed up and scary! Can you believe it? What a wimp. You’ve got to have a bit more backbone than that if you’re going to make it as a star. I do understand that I am gorgeous but if Nicole Kidman can wear a big nose for a role and Renée Zellweger is prepared to put on weight for a film it just shows that sometimes sacrifices have to be made.

But The Producer didn’t really have her heart in the job and as a result it lacked passion and she didn’t win. Me, I threw myself into the job heart and soul and passion.

Not that I mean the pup any harm you understand. It was nothing personal. Well, maybe a teensy-weensy bit personal. Okay, it was personal –  but he had just been sick in my bed so that added a little motivation to my creativity! Any one of you would have felt the same so do not judge.

HUGE thanks to Mollie & Alfie and Misaki  for doing all the hard work and giving us all such fun.

If you didn’t see the competitions I recommend you popping over.

Now I’m going to have to work on Christmas, there are sure to be some things going on nearer the festive season and The Producer needs a lot of training. Sometimes I despair, I am not sure I can do a thing with her!

The Super Sweet Princess

More cupcakes!!!

And these look gorgeous too.

Admit it everyone, you’re trying to fatten me up aren’t you?

Thank you so much to my pal Misaki for these beautiful cakes and another very pretty award to put on my blog 🙂

Don’t they look yummy? My last award was ‘One Sweet Blog Award’ now this one is ‘Super Sweet Blogging Award’ – I call that progress. I am sweet and I like pretty things of bright colours so these cakes fit the bill nicely and unlike some of the other pretty coloured things I have eaten in the past, these will not have me spending days at the vets as I slowly go from a black dog with pinkish skin to a black dog with yellow skin and then back again!

Now apparently with this award, as with most awards, I have to give credit to the one who passed it on to me – thank you again Misaki, you are a great friend.

Now I have to answer some sweet related questions. This actually made me realise how precious these gifts are because I do not have sweet stuff. Well, as I’ve said before, a girl’s gotta watch her shape these days. So I’m passing the questions onto The Producer to answer because that means I can have a good laugh!

The Producer Tackles The Hard Questions (and answers them honestly):

1. Cookies or Cake – Definitely cake and sadly the creamier or sweeter the better!

2. Chocolate or Vanilla – Chocolate, especially Lindt or Haigh’s violet and rose creams (put on weight just thinking about them).

3. What is your favourite sweet treat? Creme Brulee, chocolate mousse, profiteroles, black forest gateaux and vanilla slice – seriously, put all of those on one plate and I would swoon. I would fall into a sugar coma but I would go down happy!

4. When do you crave sweet things the most – Probably mid morning, after lunch, mid afternoon, after dinner and in the evening. Like Misaki, pretty much all the time!

Back to Zena

5. If you had a sweet nickname what would it be? Easy-peasy…… Princess Pumpkin Pie 🙂

Now for the part everybody loves and The Producer has gone awol so I can’t pass it onto her. The baker’s dozen of blogs I’m passing this onto and it’s in keeping with the spirit of the baker’s dozen because there might be one or two who have already received this award. If you have received it just know I thought of you and enjoy spreading the sweetness 🙂

1. Clowie’s Corner – such a sweet Pyrennean

2. Jasper’s Doggy World – two very sweet Maremmas who love life, eggs and everything

3. House full of Dogs – they recently had a sad event so here’s a reminder that their loss is not forgotton

4. Hutch A Good Life – Very sweet piggies deserve very sweet awards!

5. Angel’s Whisper – The very name of this blog is sweet, but the latest camouflage pics are better still!

6. Scottie Mom – Black dogs, Mr K & Heather they seem to be very busy so I’m sure a sweet break would be good for them.

7. I Love Schnauzers – Relate to the backpack issue Miss D, after that trauma I’m sure some sweet treats will be welcome!

8. First Puppy – If we’re talking sweet, they don’t come much sweeter than this

9. Everyday Adventures in Havachon Heaven – very cute grey and white curly ball of fluff, sweet, sweet, sweet. Almost as sweet as me!!!

10. Sandy Robinson’s Blog – A dog called Zak, need I add more?

11. I Adopted A dog Now What – Cute dog blog, kind of a theme here 🙂

12. Long Life Cats and Dogs – This is the blog of Lady Litchfield Love, Empress of Bordeaux and it always pays to keep in with royalty, plus they are having problems with the internet and deserve a sweet treat.

13. All that Jazz Cat – just to prove I am not prejudiced and I can find cats cute too 🙂

Okay, all done.

If you have received this before great, just enjoy the added sweetness.

If you receive it and want to respond you don’t need to comment on each blog, I’m just feeling chatty today!

If you HATE awards and do not want to respond I’m okay with that too.

Now onto a totally different subject. I GOT SPOOKED

Look at me all fierce

Me as you’ve never seen me before (or will again!)

Thanks to Mollie & Alfie for ‘uglying’ me up and making me look like Frankenstein Zena, this would give the dogs at the reserve something to be afraid of!

I am unstoppable today 🙂

Yesterday The Producer went out and bought another bed, yes, another bed! So now I have two and I lie in one when she’s at the computer and the other when she sits and uses the iPad.

Now normally, I wouldn’t think too much about it but there have been some other things happening which have caused me a little concern. I have heard them talking about how much we all miss Zac. We do. The house is so quiet without him and nothing fun happens any more.

I know that I have stopped playing, won’t touch my toys and just stay in my high sided bed sleeping all day except for when they take me out for a walk when I stay with my nose touching The Producer’s calf. I know I am a changed dog but I can’t help it.

I’ve heard them talk in whispers about depression and loneliness and there has been a lot of chatter over the Skype lines to other members of the family in far-flung places in the world. And I admit it, I am depressed but now I am a little worried too!

Because of our loneliness and my depression I sense that some kind of a decision was made about ten days ago. Then last Saturday I was taken over and left with Prissy Paws (aka Devon) for the morning and when they returned there was an excitement about them. The next day The Producer brought the new bed home. Since then I have seen a couple of new toys and the food and treat cupboard is being stocked up more than usual.

I suspect they are getting me a pal or a bodyguard. At this stage I am not too sure which. I thought they might be getting me a cat as a companion, then I thought they might be getting me a cute guinea pig like Basil but I’m still not too sure. Maybe you can tell what they are getting me from the bed The Producer bought:

Who is going to use this bed? Bodyguard or pet?

The Pudgy Princess

Ha! That title caught your attention didn’t it? Well, you will be pleased to hear that I am not really pudgy, although I have gained a little weight with my new almost raw food (that’s another story).

The title was supposed to catch your attention and underline the fact that I HAVE ANOTHER AWARD and this one is a really pretty one. This is the ONE SWEET BLOG AWARD and if I did eat all of those cupcakes I would indeed be podgy! So I’ll give them to The Producer and she can eat them and be plump because it doesn’t matter about her figure but if I’m to be a reality star I really need to watch the waistline.

This really cute award was given to me by the supportive piggies at Hutch A Good Life. I think Basil had something to do with it!
So thank you my piggy friends, I really appreciate your support.

I think animal cupcakes are a great idea and I am planning on getting The Producer to create cupcakes with my picture on them for her next party. I wonder if the local pet shop would be interested?

We have to pass it onto five friends and I’m getting in quick because I know that this is quite a new award and before long I won’t have five friends who haven’t had it!

The Prized Princess

I have been given another award!!

Astonishing isn’t it?

Award by award I am creeping up to my goal of a reality star. I shall have my name in lights. Paparazzi will ‘dog’ my every move.

First of all the most important thing. To thank Taylor who gave me this award I Adopted A Dog – Now What? .

Taylor is a rather fetching Scottish terrier/Dachshund who also happens to be all black which as you know is really essential. Everyone should have that little black dog (LBD) in their lives 🙂

I am thrilled to have another award but of course now come the rules which I am not so thrilled about.

The first rule is to thank the giver of the award – thank you, thank you, thank you to Taylor.

The second rule is to link back to the one who nominated you – Taylor – double done!

The fourth rule is to post the award (and no I haven’t forgotten the third rule I am exercising my prerogative to be ditzy).

The third rule is to talk about why I blog. That is really simple. By accident! Truly. It was Zac. Most of you know my pal Zac began blogging earlier this year and none of us realised what a short time he had left. We were devastated when the allergies and other health problems made his life intolerable and His Beloved could not continue blogging without him.

We had so many outpourings of love and sympathy from all who had got to know Zac a little that it was difficult to ignore them. So I stepped up and began to blog. It is an experiment. Zac’s Beloved still finds it tough and once or twice has almost given up.

Since stepping good naturedly into this role as a way to deal with my own grief, I have begun to realise that I have a place in the blogging world. I am not Zac. I am not a wise Tibbie. I am The Princess. I am ditzy. I panic. I am concerned about the way I look. I am fussy. I am an obvious celebrity!

So I have realised that this is my path to stardom. I shall be a Prominent Prestigious Pooch. My name will be in lights. I am in it for the fame, the fans and the fun! I am working with The Producer on a fashion line which I will bring you soon.

For now, back to the award. The last rule is the hardest. I have to name ten bloggers and let them know in the comments section of their blogs that I have nominated them. I have nibbled my nails to the quick with anxiety.

I know that some of you don’t enjoy receiving these awards and the accompanying ‘rules’ so if I nominate you and you don’t want to follow the rules that’s okay by me. If I nominate you and you already have it, consider yourself twice or even thrice acknowledged.

Here (drumroll) are my 10 nominees and ten blogs that I enjoy and if you don’t know them I recommend you take a look:

Everyday Adventures in Havachon Heaven

Okay, Okay. So I know that isn’t ten but my mind is about to blow up now and everyone else I follow seems to have this award already – that’s what I get for being the new kid on the block! Anyway a Princess is allowed to do what she likes – isn’t she?

These award ceremonies really stress me out and I have to say I didn’t think much of the goody bag The Producer gave me this time. She will have to do better in future. I insist on some liver treats in my dressing room. My comfortable bed at all times. The soft, SOFT brush for my tummy and no breaks for The Producer, constant tummy rubs.

And whatever you do do NOT leave me in the car!

Love from The Diva Princess

The Impenitent Princess

Monday dawns and we should be celebrating the return of Miss Mollie and the end of a drama which you can read here if you haven’t already caught up.

I even have another award for my indispensable involvement in the whole affair (affair being the operative word here!). Thanks Mollie & Alfie for the award – any time you put on another drama I’m right here 🙂

However, rather than celebrating, The Dictator, not The Producer you note, is a little upset with me and I am  annoyed with her.

We got back from our walk. All was well. I’d played with a couple of friends and had a good run. I was feeling good.

Me… out walking, well, posing in the middle of my walk.

We walked in through the door and the car keys came out. My heart sank. She was going out.

Then she said ‘Car’.

‘Great’, I thought,  ‘I’m coming too.’

I leapt into the car with my usual flair and cried all the way to the shops – again – my usual way of travelling.

The Dictator left me to shop. Cracked open the windows and left me. Left me!

She took me in the car because she knows I get anxious. It’s called separation anxiety.

Get it?

Separation. That means I do not like to be left alone – anywhere. And I’m going to show it, or rather sound it.

So as soon as she left I began to cry louder. She told me she wasn’t going to be long, but how did I know? Anyway, the length of time doesn’t matter to me.

When crying didn’t work, I moved into the front passenger seat and began to howl. Head up, lips pursed and howled like the wolves do at the moon in the movies. It felt quite good. And it got me lots of attention.

I know she could hear me as she stepped out of the supermarket because I could feel the vibes from her.

She remotely unlocked the car which is the signal for me that she is returning so I immediately stopped howling and jumped around with a big smile on my face.

She got into the car and quietly told me to get into the back seat and patted me. So I did but we don’t drive off. Not immediately.

She had to spend five minutes looking for the hazard light button which I had switched on and which she has never had to use before!

A guy came up to tell her what I’d done so I reckon I had made quite a stir 🙂

Well! I was perfectly justified in turning them on. What a hazard lights for if not to indicate some sort of a problem?

She didn’t tell me off but I could tell she was disappointed and just a little bit embarrassed. Actually, quite a lot embarrassed.

It’s separation anxiety – what part of separation does she not understand!

So I’m asleep now and she’s preparing dinner and has told me that I’m not going to the supermarket with her ever again.

Repentant? Me? Do I look Repentant?

Love the Proud Princess

The Awarded Princess

Another award!!! Gasp! I’m on a roll folks. I’m on a roll.

A huge lick and a great big thanks to my guinea pig friends over at Hutch A Good Life for thinking of me.

This is a pretty award and will look great on my wall. I, like my guinea pig friends, am not a fan of fireworks usually. In the past I have had Zac to help me on those occasions when the world around me seems to explode with bangs and screams. Now The Producer will have to stand in for him. I think on those occasions I will call her The Guardian.

I think I will look on the award not as the fireworks that go bang in the gardens around me but rather as an indication of my affect on those around me.

I light up their life 🙂

I am colourful and pretty 🙂

I am full of light and bring joy 🙂

I’m sure my loyal followers can think of other comparisons (and perhaps not all of them polite!).

There are rules that I must follow and because my brain doesn’t remember things for long I shall write them down:

1. The Nominee of the Wonderful Team member Readership Award shall display the logo on his/her post/page and/or sidebar

I have done both so I think I can get a gold star for that one.

2. The Nominee shall nominate 14 readers they appreciate over a period of 7 days (1 week) – this can be done at any rate during the week. It can be ALL on one day or a few on one day and a few on another day, etc.

Now this is hard because most of the blogs I follow have already received this award.  I will choose those who I don’t think have it and if you do already have it sorry, blame my little brain.

3. The Nominee shall name his or her Wonderful Team Member Readership Award nominees on a post or on posts during the 7 day (1 week) period.

Done and dusted 🙂

4. The Nominee shall make these rules, or amended rules keeping to the spirit of the Wonderful Team Member Readership Award, known to each reader s/he nominates.

Guys – if you don’t read this blog, you won’t know the rules …..hee…hee

5. The Nominee must finish this sentence and post: ”A Great reader is…”

A great reader is someone who can read between the lines and know what is really being said.

Thanks to all who have followed this blog and earlier who followed Zac the All Black through his trials. It is because of all the support and feedback that we had when we lost Zac that this blog has come about and although we have faltered from time to time, the desire to keep in touch and read the stories of our fellow furry travellers has kept us going.

With love from The Pyrotechnic Princess!!

The Decorated Princess

I have been honoured and recognised for being beautiful, well alright lovely – but it’s the same thing really. And I know it says lovely blog but it really means lovely ME!

I knew it would happen of course, I just didn’t expect it so soon.

An award for me? Really? Can I open it now?

Now. I would like to thank Zac because without him The Princess would never have come into being. Without him I was merely Zena. Dog ordinaire. Loving. Gentle. No-one. It is Zac who made me who I am today and who christened me The Princess and it is due to him that I stand in my magnificence before you today.

I suppose I have to thank The Producer as well but ….well, enough of that.

I really have to thank Misaki for giving me this award. Misaki is a very stylish Malamute who certainly recognises greatness when she sees it. Thanks Misaki. You can find out all about Misaki if you click on her name. Success as a reality star is all about promotion you know!

It is a good thing The Producer gave me that bath as it happens because as you can see, I am all ready to go to the ceremony and be adored.

I’m sending The Producer out for a proper tiara today.

Now the next thing I have to do is tell you seven things about myself – only seven sadly.

My favourite subject…….ME!!!!!

1. I don’t like pedicures. I don’t really like my feet touched at all.

2. I do love belly rubs and lie on my back in The Producers lap at night. If she stops stroking my tummy I bop her with a fluffy paw. Just a gentle reminder.

3. I hate being alone and will let them know it – loudly and long.

4. I am an early riser and usually by 6.00am I am scratching and whining at The Producer’s bedroom door to tell her she should be up. For some reason this is not appreciated!

5. I dislike bones! I like plastic bones. It is real bones I don’t trust. I know! Strange but true. There is something about them which I just don’t like.

6. I like to run and play. If there is no-one to play with I try to play with the birds but they cheat and fly off!

7. I am very friendly and would never snap or be rude at people but I prefer to socialise with dogs at the park. I do not like to be petted by strangers.

Snooty? Me?   Not too close please. Paparazzi exclusion zone.

Now the hard part. Nominate other blogs. It is not that there is a shortage of lovely blogs out there, it is that most of the ones I know have already received this award! I am the new kid on the block and a little behind.

So, if I nominate you and you have it – wonderful.

Otherwise I nominate:

Dakota’s Den – Dakota has a really cool name and is very pretty. She is a Shetland Sheepdog (The Producer rescued one of those once) and she writes about lots of interesting stuff.

Cat Chat – A little incestuous here because this is Dakota’s brother Cody, but I loved the blog about adopting a less adoptable pet and think it deserves a lovely blog mention, even if Cody & Dakota are related!

House Full Of Dogs – As well as stories about the dogs, this blog talks about dog adoptions and rescuing which I am all for.

Lexi and Jasper the Great Danes – I have to say when I come face to face with a great dane in the park I am a little intimidated, especially now I haven’t got Zac to protect me and The Producer doesn’t run to my side and growl like he used to! However, from what I have seen Lexi and Jasper are the typical gentle giants and I love the countryside they live in. Such green grass 🙂

Rumpy Dog – I like the way Rumpy and his team are highlighting important health issues.

Clowie’s Corner – I am pretty sure Clowie has the award, but if she hasn’t she should have!

Jasper’s Doggy World – Beautiful white shaggy dogs, beautiful New Zealand countryside – what’s not to love! Again, sure you have this award but went through all your blog titles and couldn’t find it!!

And that’s seven!

Lots of love The Proud Princess
